It seems a bit extreme at first, but after you think about it, you start to see where the author is coming from. This quotation takes the side of the betrayed. Not only does this quote show the side of someone betrayed, but it shows the perspective of someone who has been through a very harsh betrayal, most likely by someone they trusted very much.
