The Lion King
...This betrayal should be known by everybody and is a sad part of many people's childhood. I am speaking of the betrayal of Scar towards Mufasa, Simba and the whole pride. Scar kills his brother Mufasa and tells Simba that it was his fault in order to rule the Pride Rock which he thought was rightfully his. This is a perfect example of someone committing betrayal in order to achieve "success". However, after Mufasa is killed, the viewer also gets to see the side of the betrayed and the effect the betrayal has on the rest of his life. Through killing Mufasa achieves the "willful slaughter of hope" for Simba that Stephen Dietz was speaking of. I think it is fair to deem this betrayal not acceptable seeing as it involved a death, a forever scarred cub, and many real children's tears. Thankfully, Scar gets what he deserves in the end, making it almost possible to forgive Disney for what they had done...
